PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a cyclic heptapeptide melanocortin receptor agonist derived from Melanotan II. Unlike vascular-acting compounds, PT-141 acts centrally through MC3R and MC4R in the hypothalamus, making it a unique research tool for CNS-mediated arousal pathways.
PT-141 activates melanocortin receptors in the central nervous system, particularly the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus, to initiate dopaminergic signaling pathways associated with sexual arousal behavior in research models. Studies have examined its mechanism of action in both male and female subjects, its dose-response profile, and its interaction with dopamine and oxytocin systems. Its CNS-first mechanism distinguishes it from PDE5 inhibitors and peripheral vasodilators. For laboratory research use only.
